About Your Center

Our Mission

It is The Center’s goal to foster empowerment in each individual who walks through our doors and give everyone a better sense of the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) community spirit.

We believe in order to provide a safe and nurturing community for individuals, groups, and organizations it is vital to keep your center alive and vibrant. With this foremost in mind, we can fulfill and assist your needs emotionally, culturally and educationally.

The Center’s History

billboardFounded in 1993, The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Greater Cincinnati Inc was incorporated in the State of Ohio and registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501c3 organization.

In 1993, The Center was located at Long Worth Hall off Pete Rose Way. During that time, The Center was home to the area’s only Gay & Lesbian Switchboard, which provided peer counseling to individuals in the Tri-State. The Center later relocated to the heart of Downtown Cincinnati. It was there that The Center hosted the Gay & Lesbian Switchboard, a variety of support groups, and an expansive library of materials dedicated to GLBT issues. It was also here that the Center worked side by side with Stonewall Cincinnati, a human rights organization.

Currently, The Center is located at 4119 Hamilton Avenue in Northside. This has been our home since December 1998. We offer a variety of educational, cultural, and support-related resources to all GLBT individuals and supporters in our community.

Over the years, The Center has seen its fair share of change. Most recently, in 2005, The Center took the reins of the Tri-State’s annual Pride Festival & Parade. The Board of Directors stepped up and took action immediately after the Cincinnati Pride Organization dissolved.

In the Fall, The Center holds its largest fundraiser “Pride Night at Paramount’s Kings Island.” 2006 will mark the tenth anniversary of the event. Every year, thousands of GLBT individuals and supporters from across the country gather for “Pride Night,” to show their support for The Center and the community. Thanks to your generous support, this fundraiser allows The Center to keep its doors open and offer the Tri-State a centralized home for all your GLBT needs.
